PA: Palestinian Authority security personnel clash with militants in Jenin Dec. 14

Heightened security, further clashes likely in Jenin, PA, in the coming days following confrontations Dec. 14.

Warning

Heightened security and further clashes are likely in Jenin, West Bank, in the coming days following clashes between Palestinian Authority (PA) security personnel and militants in Jenin early Dec. 14. The confrontations left an Islamic Jihad senior commander dead. PA officials also intercepted a vehicle bomb they say was due to be used in a terrorist attack. Islamic Jihad has reportedly called for protests in response to the PA actions. Hamas has condemned the security force operation.

Additional patrols, checkpoints and possible movement restrictive measures are likely in and around Jenin in the coming days. PA security operations could spark protests by residents. Highly localized unrest could also be sparked in response to any security operation. Any related gatherings are likely to be well-policed; clashes are possible.

As a standard precaution, avoid all protests and concentrations of security personnel. Reconfirm the status of road routes before departure. Heed the instructions of security personnel. Travel with identification to facilitate swift movement through checkpoints. Consider avoiding travel to Jenin until the security operation concludes.
