Peru: Officials close dozens of seaports through Jan. 1

Officials close dozens of seaports in Peru through Jan. 1 after abnormal wave activity.

Informational

The National Emergency Operations Center has announced the closure of 91 of the country's 121 Pacific coast ports through at least Jan. 1 after large waves struck multiple areas of the Peruvian coastline on Dec. 28. Localized coastal flooding was reported in multiple locations, leading authorities to close beaches and ports. Officials have attributed the waves, which also impacted parts of Chile and Ecuador, to winds generated off the US coastline.

Associated maritime operation disruptions are likely in the coming days. Additional adverse wave conditions could prompt additional closures and coastal flooding.

Exercise caution in the immediate vicinity of the coastline. Reconfirm all services or freight being shipped via seaports through Jan. 1. Heed the advisories of officials.
