Workers associated with the National Union of Portuguese Railway Machinists (Sindicato Nacional dos Maquinistas dos Caminhos de Ferro Portuguese, SMAQ) plan to strike Dec. 31-Jan. 1 in a dispute over unpaid bonuses. Porto Metro has announced that the last service will occur between 22:00 and 23:00 Dec. 30.
The strike action will likely increase demand for alternative forms of public transportation in Porto. Striking workers may protest, and security officials will likely attend any associated gatherings.
