Informational

Environmental activists plan to protest on Dos Hermanos Bridge in San Juan from 10:00 Jan. 2. The demonstration will coincide with Governor Gonzalez Colon's inauguration. Protesters will demand that the incoming administration prioritize environmental issues. Hundreds of people are likely to attend.

The inauguration will begin at 08:00 at Santa Teresita Church. Additional activities will occur before the official inauguration at 10:30 at the Capitol. Following the Capitol event, the governor will walk to La Fortaleza. Officials will implement several road closures and vehicle restrictions in the impacted locations beginning Jan. 1.

Heightened security is likely in San Juan through Jan. 2. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor protests. If demonstrators ignore orders to disperse or are overly disruptive, confrontations between protesters and the police are possible.

As a standard precaution, avoid the protest. Plan for road travel delays through most of northern San Juan Jan. 1-2.
