A magnitude-5.0 earthquake occurred in southern Kamchatka Krai at around 09:42 Dec. 16. The epicenter was about 95 km (60 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 58 km (36 miles), and weak shaking was probably felt near the epicenter and parts of southern Kamchatka Krai.
