Critical

A Jeju Air (7C) passenger aircraft from Bangkok, Thailand, crashed at Muan International Airport (MWX) in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, at around 09:07 Dec. 29. At least 28 people were killed; officials may update the casualty toll over the coming hours amid ongoing rescue operations. At least 175 passengers and six crew members were on board the aircraft. Initial reports suggest a bird strike damaged the plane's landing gear, causing the aircraft to veer off the runway and collide with a wall.

Heightened security and localized ground transport disruptions are likely at MWX as emergency operations continue. Officials will likely close or limit operations at MWX due to the incident; flight disruptions are probable.

MWX is located approximately 40 km (25 miles) southwest of Gwangju.

Avoid the affected area until the situation stabilizes and authorities give the all-clear. Reconfirm flights at MWX. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
