UK: Train disruptions likely between Preston, Bolton, and Wigan North Western stations through late Dec. 19 due to fault with signaling system

Signaling system fault near Leyland, UK, blocks rail lines Dec. 19; train delays likely between Preston, Bolton, and Wigan North Western.

Warning

Significant rail transport disruptions will likely affect trains traveling between Preston, Bolton, and Wigan North Western stations in North West England through at least late Dec. 19 due to a fault with the signaling system near Leyland. The incident has affected several train operators' routes, including those of Avanti West Coast, Northern, and TransPennine Express. National Rail has said that engineers are at the scene and trains traveling between the abovementioned stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised, or canceled.

Residual rail transport disruptions may persist into at least early Dec. 20 in the event that train operators need to reposition rolling stock. The train disruptions may lead to increased demand for alternative modes of transport over the coming hours.

Reconfirm rail transport reservations and schedules if planning to travel via Preston, Bolton, or Wigan North Western stations. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider taking alternative modes of transport for time-sensitive travel.
