France: Farmers to protest and block roads in some locations nationwide from Jan. 5
Farmers to protest, block roads in areas across France, including Paris and Lyon, from Jan. 5. Disruptions, tight security, clashes likely.
Unionized farmers affiliated with the Rural Coordination (Coordination Rurale, CR) plan to protest and occasionally block roads across France, including Paris and Lyon, starting on Jan. 5, in response to grievances regarding agricultural policies that they perceive as threatening their livelihoods.
CR leaders have stated their goal is to conduct vehicle motorcades toward Paris on Jan. 5, where they will occasionally block roads near the city center and around the Rungis Market starting Jan. 6. Additionally, organizers have stated that simultaneous blockades will take place in Lyon and other locations nationwide. Authorities in Paris have banned "undeclared" gatherings in the city center and near Rungis Market as of Jan. 4. The ban is effective from 18:00 on Jan. 5 through 12:00 on Jan. 6. Organizers did not provide a date for when the actions will end.
Authorities will almost certainly increase security in urban areas nationwide, including Paris and Lyon. Police will almost certainly attempt to disperse unruly demonstrators, potentially leading to clashes.
Avoid any protest that materializes. Heed all instructions from local authorities.
