Authorities are disposing of an unexploded World War II bomb near Dillenburg, Hesse, as of late Jan. 1. The unexploded bomb was discovered near the A45 motorway in Dilenburg. Officials indicate that they closed the A4 highway between Dilenburg and Herborn. Officials have stated the incident does not impact any residential areas. However, traffic on the A45 has been rerouted, and urged commuters to seek alternative routes, such as the A4, A3, and Federal Highway 277, to circumvent the area.
Heightened security will likely affect areas near the bomb site for the duration of the operation and will likely linger into at least early Jan. 2.
