India: Bharatiya Janata Party to protest across Karnataka State from Jan. 2

BJP to hold district-level protests across Karnataka State, India, from Jan. 2. Increased security likely, disruptions possible.

Informational

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women's wing has called for district-level protests across Karnataka State from Jan. 2. Participants are denouncing the government's alleged inaction in preventing maternal deaths. Organizers did not specify gathering locations, but protests could occur at prominent government buildings, public squares, and thoroughfares. In Bengaluru, popular gathering locations include Freedom Park, the governor's residence (Raj Bhavan), Mahatma Gandhi Road, Town Hall, and the State Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Soudha). Dozens to a hundred people could attend each protest, with larger gatherings of a few hundred people possible in major cities such as Bengaluru and Mysuru.

Authorities will likely monitor any potential gatherings. While related events will probably be peaceful, minor scuffles between protesters and police are possible. Localized transport disruptions may occur, especially if demonstrators march along or block roadways.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Use alternative routes to circumvent protest sites; remain cooperative if stopped by officials for security checks. Do not navigate roadblocks as a safety precaution. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
