Netherlands: Climate activists to protest in The Hague, Jan. 11
Extinction Rebellion activists to protest protest on A12 in The Hague, Netherlands, from 12:00 Jan. 11; road travel disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion (XR) plan to protest by staging a blockade on the A12 motorway in The Hague from 12:00 Jan. 11. The protests will demand the end of subsidies to fossil fuels. Based on previous similar events, over a hundred participants are likely to attend the blockade.
Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the motorway status and the protest. Transport disruptions are likely on the A12 for the duration of the protest. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or disgruntled drivers are possible.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
