Slovakia: Activists to demonstrate in Bratislava Jan. 3

Activists to protest at Office of the Government in Bratislava, Slovakia, from 17:00 Jan. 3. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Pro-Ukrainian activists plan to protest at the Office of the Government on Namestie Slobody in Bratislava from 17:00 Jan. 3. The purpose of the demonstration is to express solidarity with Ukraine and to denounce Prime Minister Robert Fico's relations with Russia, which organizers consider overly close. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend.

Police will likely deploy nearby to facilitate the gathering. The presence of demonstrators and law enforcement officers will likely cause localized transport disruptions. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the Office of the Government in the late afternoon and evening. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
