Turkiye: Activists to demonstrate in central Mersin Jan. 11
Activists to protest at Akdeniz Municipality in Mersin, Turkiye, from 14:00 Jan. 11. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Opposition activists plan to protest at the Akdeniz Municipality building on 123 Caddesi in Mersin from 14:00 Jan. 11. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the release of several local politicians, including two of the municipality's co-mayors. Several hundred people attended a related gathering during the afternoon of Jan. 10; similar or larger attendance is likely at the Jan. 11 protest.
Law enforcement officers will almost certainly deploy nearby to monitor the event. Localized traffic disruptions are likely in the affected area. Confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot are possible.
Avoid the demonstration location as a standard precaution. Allow additional time to reach nearby destinations. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
