Turkiye: Activists to demonstrate in Izmir Jan. 4
Political activists to protest at Karsiyaka Bazaar in Izmir, Turkiye, from 15:00 Jan. 4. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the People's Liberation Party (HKP) plan to protest at Karsiyaka Bazaar on Kemal Pasa Caddesi in Izmir from 15:00 Jan. 4. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the policies of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). It was not immediately clear how many people would participate in the demonstration; large crowds are possible.
Police will likely deploy near the protest site to facilitate the gathering. The presence of protesters and law enforcement officers will likely disrupt vehicular transport in the area. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Karsiyaka Bazaar. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
