UK: Police investigating suspicious item in Manchester Jan. 2

Police and explosive ordnance disposal teams are responding to a suspicious item at a Morrisons store on Wilbraham Road in the Chorlton area of Manchester on Jan. 2. The suspicious item may be connected to an attempted ATM robbery at the store. Police have ordered the evacuation of the store and closed parts of Wilbraham and Albany roads while their operation is underway. The Chorlton tram stop has also been closed in both directions. The duration of the operation remains unclear.

Localized business and travel disruptions will likely continue through the afternoon of Jan. 2 as authorities investigate the item. Tram delays may persist for a short while after regular services resume.
