Forest fire near Tangier ongoing since June 30; firefighting operations underway

Firefighting operations are currently underway in Morocco to control a fire that has devastated 215 hectares (531 acres) of the Mediouna forest near Tangier, located in the mouth of the Strait of Gibraltar, since June 30. Five planes and 550 firefighters have been mobilized, with Spain sending an additional water-bomber. Despite strong winds, authorities hope to control the fire before sunset on Tuesday, June 4.
The causes of the fire remain unknown and has reportedly not resulted in any causalities.
