Italy: National transportation strike June 16

Event

A number of transportation sector strikes are set to take place on Friday, June 16, and will likely result in disruptions (delays, cancelations, modified schedules) across the country. Air, rail, public transit, and maritime travel will be affected throughout the day.

Airports ground staff and/or cabin crews will take part in the strike, including at Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), Verona Villafranca (VRN), Bologna Guglielmo Marconi (BLQ), and Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY) international airports. Alitalia cabin crew will also take part in the strike from 11:00 to 15:00 (local time). In addition to flight disruptions, increased wait times at check-in, baggage claim/drop-off, and security checkpoints are also possible.

Context

Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.
