Severe traffic disruptions are expected throughout Oslo on Wednesday, May 10, due to celebrations for the king and queen’s birthdays. The traffic police have specifically warned drivers of massive congestion in downtown areas beginning in the afternoon, e.g. around Karl Johans gate, Queen Euphemia gate, Jernbanetorget Plaza, and the Opera building from 16:00 (local time) to 19:00. The area around Telenor Arena (located in the suburb Fornebu) will also experience major traffic jams starting at 18:00 due to a concert.
An increased security presence in the above areas is to be anticipated.
Context

Advice
Individuals in Oslo are advised to avoid driving downtown during the above mentioned times and to allow extra time to reach destinations. Due to the underlying threat of terrorism, remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
