Portugal: SATA/Azores Airlines cabin crew strike August 23-27

SATA/Azores Airlines flight attendants to stage strike from August 23 to August 27; flight disruptions to be expected

Warning

Event

The National Union of Civil Aviation has announced that the cabin crew of SATA/Azores Airlines will stage a strike from Wednesday, August 23, through Sunday, August 27, coinciding with peak tourist season. The strike has been planned to protest current working conditions as well as denounce what workers claim is the management’s failure to comply with contractual obligations.

Grupo SATA, Azores Airlines' parent company, has warned of possible flight delays and cancelations for the duration of the strike and strongly advised its passengers to change their travel plans. Information regarding possible compensation is yet to be issued by the airline.

Context

This is the third strike staged by the SATA/Azores Airlines cabin crew in recent months. Previous strikes, on May 1 and 2, and later on June 1 and 2, caused widespread air traffic disruptions affecting thousands of passengers.

Advice

Potentially impacted travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flight prior to departure for the airport and to consider making alternative travel arrangements.
