Nigeria: Flight disruptions at Murtala Muhammed International Airport August 28

Significant delays reported at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on August 28 due to strike

Warning

Event

Operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos slowed to a near stop on the morning of Monday, August 28, following a strike by maintenance contractors. The contractors that maintain the airport’s baggage conveyor belts launched an indefinite strike Monday morning due to debts owed to them by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Service continues at the airport, however, with major delays for both arrivals and departures, as airline personnel had to manually load and unload bags from the aircraft. The strike is affecting operations by Virgin Atlantic Airways, Qatar Airways, Kenya Airlines, and Med-View Airline, and may affect service on the following airlines: South African Airways, Air France/KLM, Delta Air Lines, British Airways, African World Airlines, RwandAir, Emirates, Etihad, and Maroc Air.

Advice

Travelers flying to, from, or through LOS are advised to confirm the status of their flights and to contact their airline for additional information.
