DRC: Doctors’ strike intensifies August 28
Nationwide doctors’ strike expands on August 28 to include emergency services

The Democratic Republic of Congo Doctors’ Union (SYMECO) expanded its strike on Monday, August 28, to refuse care at all public hospitals except for patients already admitted. SYMECO’s leader indicated that they intend to maintain the strike indefinitely until the government takes their demands into account. The next round of talks are planned for Friday, September 1.
Context
SYMECO launched the strike on August 18 in a bid to have doctor salaries indexed to those of university professors.
