Italy: Transport staff to strike in Rome September 12

Unions representing transport staff in Rome have announced a four-hour strike on Tuesday, September 12, to denounce a proposed set of reforms that will affect salaries, employment opportunities, and working regulations.  As such, bus, tram, and metro services will be temporarily suspended from 08:30 to 12:30 (local time).

Context

Rome’s public transport company, Atac, is facing bankruptcy, which has prompted the city’s mayor to reach out to creditors to support a restructuring of its debt. The company currently employs some 12,000 people. It is still unclear how many employees will participate in the strike.

Travelers are advised to avoid public transportation in Rome during the strike and allow for extra time to reach their destination.
