China: Typhoon Khanun to hit Hainan Oct. 15
Typhoon Khanun is forecast to hit Hainan island on October 15; transportation service suspended in the area

Southeastern parts of China are expected to be impacted by Typhoon Khanun as it moves through the area starting on the evening of Saturday, October 14. Parts of mainland China in Guangdong province and Hong Kong may experience rains from the storm from Saturday into the morning of Monday, October 16. Hainan island and the Leizhou peninsula are forecast to be hit on Sunday, October 15, and could experience significant storm surges. Train and ferry services between Hainan and China’s mainland across the Qiongzhou strait have been suspended from Saturday through Tuesday, October 17. Typhoon Khanun may cause isolated flash flooding and wind damage along the coastal areas.

Tropical storms and typhoons are common in the region between July and November, with a peak of storms typically observed in the last weeks of August and the first weeks of September.
