Germany: Some 100,000 passengers to lose Air Berlin flight tickets
Air Berlin to discontinue some domestic routes due to financial difficulties; long-haul flight operations to be suspended by October 15; some 100,000 passengers to lose tickets
Event
Air Berlin has confirmed media reports that some 100,000 passengers will not be compensated after their flights were canceled, as the company continues to reduce services due to financial difficulties. Air Berlin's worsening financial situation has already led to an aircraft shortage, with the airline announcing that all long-haul flight operations will be suspended by October 15.
Since September 25, all Air Berlin flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Düsseldorf (DUS) international airports have been canceled, as well as all flights to the Caribbean, including Curaçao (CUR), Cancun (CUN), Havana (HAV), Varadero (VRA), Punta Cana (PUJ), and Puerto Plata (POP) international airports. Similarly, since September 29, all flights connecting Munich International Airport (MUC) to Hamburg (HAM) and Cologne/Bonn (CGN) international airports have been suspended. However, all Air Berlin flights operated jointly with its partner airline Niki should continue to operate as normal.
Advice
Travelers flying with Air Berlin are advised to confirm their travel reservations and contact the airline for more information.
