The US Department of State has issued a warning to its citizens regarding a planned protest march by the Black First Land First (BLF) movement on Thursday, October 26. The march is planned to begin in Rosebank at 10:00 (local time), before proceeding to the US Consulate in Johannesburg, concluding around 14:00, in protest of US policies towards Venezuela. Authorities have issued a permit for only 200 people to participate in the march; nevertheless, transportation disruptions are likely in the area as well as an increased security presence. The march is expected to be peaceful.
Context
BLF is a political party in South Africa founded in 2015. BLF is considered a Marxist radical party that advocates for the non-compensated transfer of assets from White South Africans to indigenous Black South Africans. It holds no seats in parliament.
