Ghana: Protest march planned in Accra Dec. 16
Opposition party and civil society group plan to hold a march on December 16 in Accra in support of the Togolese protesters; traffic disruptions likely

The Solidarity Ghana-Togo group plans to demonstrate on Saturday, December 16, in the Kawukudi park of the capital city of Accra to support Togolese opposition supporters who have been protesting since August in their home country. Supporters from the Ghanaian opposition party, the People’s National Convention (PNC), will join the march. As of Thursday, December 14, the police have not yet authorized the demonstration. If the protest does occur, traffic disruptions are likely around the vicinity of the event.
Context
Numerous opposition sit-ins and marches - some of which have turned violent - have been held throughout Togo since mid-August. The demonstrations have been organized by various opposition groups, including the Parti National Panafricain (PNP), the Combat pour l'Alternance Politique en 2015 (CAP 2015), and the Groupe des Six. Thousands have taken to the streets to demand that President Faure Gnassingbé, who has been in power since 2005, step down.
