An armed man with an explosive device takes hostages at a post office in Kharkiv December 30; police have cordoned off the area

At approximately 15:20 (local time) an armed man reportedly took nine adults and two children hostage at a post office on Shevchenko street in the eastern city of Kharkiv. According to police sources, the man is also wearing what appears to be an explosive device. Police officers have cordoned off the area around the building. Officials have not said what the man’s demands or motives are. Details are still emerging. Avoid the area.
