DRC: Student protest in Kinshasa Jan. 24

Event

Police used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse students protesting in front of the University of Kinshasa (UKIN) on Wednesday, January 24. Students were protesting rises in tuition fees and in support of colleagues expelled due to their participation in a recent anti-government protest. Further such demonstrations are likely in the coming weeks.

Context

A number of protests have taken place over the 2017-2018 academic year regarding tuition fees.
