Tropical Cyclone Fehi to bring rain and wind gusts to northern region and eastern coasts January 29-30

Event

Tropical Cyclone Fehi is looming near New Caledonia as of Monday, January 29, and is expected to pass to the west of the island. Currently rated a category one cyclone, it is not forecast to intensify. Rainfalls of up to 2 cm (0.7 in) are nonetheless expected in the northern half of New Caledonia as well as along the eastern coast, with wind gusts up to 100 km/h (60 mph) through Tuesday, January 30.

No transportation disruptions are expected, however there is a risk of flying debris.

Context

Cyclone season in the region typically lasts from November to April but storms can occur outside this period.
