Informational

Event

Motorists in Singapore will start to see new traffic cameras on various roads beginning on the week of March 25-31. Authorities will test Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera systems meant to help with traffic rule enforcement at various locations along expressways and major roads until 2019. Dedicated Short Range Communications beacons, which aim to enhance positioning accuracy, are also being tested.

Context

The new equipment will be mounted on overhead bridges, overhead signs, and lamp posts. Devices will also be placed on vehicles and deployed in some areas (e.g. Tuas South) from April before expanding to the rest of the country.

Advice

As a reminder, individuals staying in Singapore for longer than one year must apply for a Singaporean driving license.
