Winter Storm Xanto moves east through Canada April 17-18; some disruptions expected

Snow and freezing rain continue to hit eastern Canada as of Tuesday, April 17, as Winter Storm Xanto moves towards the Atlantic coast. Alerts issued by the national weather service remain in effect in parts of the following provinces: Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Québec, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia; alerts are also in effect in the western provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. The storm is expected to continue to affect the extreme east of the country through Wednesday, with conditions improving progressively in other areas beginning on Tuesday.
Some associated transportation disruptions are possible, with Air Canada warning of flight disruptions at airports in Baie Comeau (YBC), Gaspé (YGP), Mont Joli (YYY), Sept-Îles (YZV), and Îles-de-la-Madeleine (YGR).
