Warning

Event

Teachers will hold a demonstration in the capital Panama City on Friday, April 27, marching from the Escuela República de Venezuela school to the Presidential Palace. As many as 10,000 teachers may take part and associated traffic disruptions are to be anticipated along the march route. The gathering will likely remain non-violent, although clashes with police cannot be ruled out.

According to the Ministry of Education, schools will remain open. However, teacher unions are calling on parents to not send their children to school, claiming classes will be suspended in some 90 percent of schools across the country.

Advice

Individuals in Panama are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution.
