Pakistan: Protests over utility cuts in Karachi April 27

Event

Heavy traffic jams were reported throughout Karachi on the morning of Friday, April 27, due to demonstrations by members of the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) held to protest recurring power outages and water shortages. The gatherings took place in various areas, including Shahrah e Faisal, Malir, Orangi Town, Dehli Colony, and Lyari. Security forces were deployed at many of the sites (e.g.  Shahrah e Faisal) to maintain order. 

Context

Most parts of Karachi have experienced unprecedented power and water cuts amid a dispute between the city's gas and electricity utility providers. Several political parties have held protests to denounce the issue.
