Russia: Saratov Airlines to cease operations May 31
Federal Air Transport Agency to revoke Saratov Airlines operating license on May 31
Event
The Federal Air Transport Agency instructed Saratov Airlines on Thursday, May 17, to cease booking tickets for flights beginning on May 31 as its Air Operator Certificate will be canceled. In response to these instructions, Saratov Airlines announced it would indefinitely suspend operations beginning on the same day. On July 18, 1200 employees will be dismissed.
Context
On February 11, a plane operated by Saratov Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff killing all 65 passengers and 6 crew members on-board. Following the accident, restrictions were imposed by the Federal Air Transport Agency following inspections of the carrier.
