Tropical cyclone Mekunu is forming in the Arabian Sea and is expected to make landfall along Oman's southern coast between Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26. The storm is currently intensifying due to warm sea temperatures and could reach hurricane strength by the time it makes landfall. The storm is expected to affect Salalah, Oman's second largest city. Sustained winds of over 145 km/hr (90 mph) are forecast, as well as dangerous surf. Flash flooding, landslides, power outages, and associated transportation disruptions are possible.
