Warning

Event

Protests by taxi drivers broke out on Monday evening (local time), May 28, in the Playa del Carmen and Cancún areas (Quintana Roo state) after the state congress approved a law that will allow ride-sharing services like Uber to resume activities. More than 2000 people reportedly took part in the protests, blocking the federal highway that links Cancún with Playa del Carmen. Further such protests are likely in the coming days and weeks.

Advice

Individuals in Quintana Roo state, and Mexico more generally, are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution and to never attempt to cross a roadblock without authorization.
