Chad: Judges strike continues; protest in N’Djamena June 7

Justice personnel are continuing their nationwide strike as of June 6 and threaten to protest on June 7 in N’djamena

Warning

Event

As of Wednesday, June 6, a strike by judges and other judicial sector workers continues throughout the country. The strike was launched on May 28 to denounce insecurity in the country following an armed attack carried out by a police officer targeting a lawyer in Doba (Logone Oriental region) who was transporting clients on May 22. Lawyers, notaries, and bailiffs are all taking part.

The police officer involved in the attack has not been changed. Striking workers have threatened to hold a protest in the capital N’Djamena on Thursday, June 7, to denounce this impunity as well as the governor of the Logone Oriental region.

Advice

Individuals in Chad are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution due to the risk of violence, and adhere to advice issued by local authorities or their home governments.
