Mexico: Hurricane Bud off Pacific coast June 12 /update 2

Event

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Bud is located - as of 03:00 (local time) on June 12 - approximately 420 km (260 mi) west of Manzanillo (Colima state). The tropical storm warning in place June 11 for the coastline of Jalisco state has been canceled. However, further heavy rain and strong winds are expected western Mexico, notably in coastal areas of Nayarit, Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco. Associated flooding and mudslides are possible; damages have already been reported in Jalisco and Guerrero.

The storm is currently forecast to move in an east-northeasterly direction and weaken into a tropical storm before making landfall in Baja California Sur state overnight June 14-15. Bud is expected to weaken further into a tropical depression before making landfall for a second time June 16 in northwestern Mexico, in the state of Sonora or Sinaloa. 

Context

The Pacific Hurricane Season extends from May 15 to November 30 (and the Atlantic Hurricane Season from June 1 to November 30), with the largest concentration of storms typically occurring between August and October.
