An underwater earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale struck near the Vanuatu coast at 20:46 (local time) on Friday, July 13. The epicenter was located 73 km (45 mi) north-northwest of the town of Isangel. Shaking was also felt in New Caledonia.

It is unclear at this point if the earthquake has resulted in damages or casualties.
