Costa Rica: Farmer protests from August 19

Agriculture-sector unions threaten to hold protests and possibly strikes beginning on August 19 to protest proposed tax hike

Warning

Event

Agriculture-sector unions have threatened to paralyze the country to denounce a bill being debated in the National Assembly that would increase taxes. The unions have stated they will begin to protest in front of the National Assembly building in the capital San José on Monday, August 19, progressively increasing the intensity of their protest movement until the government responds. Strikes and roadblocks are thus possible in the following days both in the capital and elsewhere in the country.

Advice

Individuals in Costa Rica are advised to keep abreast of the situation and avoid all protests as a precaution.
