Grenade attack in Noshki district (Balochistan) wounds 14 on August 13; security forces conduct raids on August 16

On Monday, August 13, two militants reportedly threw a hand grenade into a shop in the Noshki district of Balochistan, wounding at least 14 people. According to local police officials, heightened security measures have been deployed throughout the city. On Thursday, August 16, security forces conducted a series of raids, seizing weapons and ammunition caches in the Kuhlu and Sanjavi areas of the region. Further attacks by militants, as well as operations by local security forces are possible in the coming days and weeks.

Context

Balochistan, which borders both Iran and Afghanistan, is Pakistan's largest, poorest, least inhabited, and least developed province, despite significant gas and mineral wealth.
