US: Fire warning issued for state of Idaho and neighboring regions August 16-17

The United States National Weather Service (NWS) issued "Red Flag Warnings" for all of Idaho, central and eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and southwestern Montana on Thursday evening (local time), August 16 until Friday evening, August 17. Favorable conditions for wildfires persist in the area due to dry storms, high likelihood of lightning, and strong winds. This may hamper existing firefighting efforts and result in new blazes. Most of the critical risk warnings will be lifted Friday evening, though elevated conditions will persist.

Wildfires are common in the western US from May through November and several blazes are currently burning in Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho. A Red Flag Warning means a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and high temperatures create ideal fire weather conditions.
