Annual carnival celebrations to be held in Nouméa September 8; crowded conditions and disruptions expected

The 31st annual carnival will be held in the capital of Nouméa on Saturday, September 8. Around 25,000 people are expected to attend the events throughout the city. The main parade will begin at 18:00 (local time) at Place Bir-Hakeim on Avenue de la Victoire, before traveling up Avenue du Maréchal-Foch to Place des Cocotiers. Roads will be closed along the parade route will be closed from 17:00 and access to areas around city hall will be prohibited from 20:00. Crowded conditions and traffic disruptions are expected throughout the city during the carnival.

Advice

Individuals in Nouméa on September 8 are advised to exercise an increased level of vigilance regarding crime (carry only small amounts of cash, leave copies of passports/credit cards in a safe location, etc.) and to allow for additional time to reach their destinations.
