US/Mexico: Flash flooding watches issued along Gulf of Mexico coast September 13-15

Event

A burgeoning storm system is expected to bring heavy rains and possible flooding to the Texas-Mexico border from Thursday, September 13, through Saturday, September 15. The storm cell, which has a 50 percent chance of forming into a tropical depression, will arrive between Corpus Christi and Brownsville. Rainfall totals of 5-10 cm (2-4 in) with isolated amounts of 15 cm (6 in) are expected, with the heaviest rains coming Friday, September 14. The US National Weather Service (NWS) is warning that the already saturated ground in the region will facilitate a higher likelihood of flooding. Flood warnings have been issued for the Nueces and Frio rivers. Texas cities of Laredo, Kingsville, and Victoria and the Mexican cities of Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo are also expected to be affected.
