Mexico: Hurricane Rosa approaching Baja California /update 1

Event

According to the US-based National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Rosa was located approximately 1015 km (630 mi) southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula as of 08:00 (local time) on Friday, September 28. According to the latest forecasts, Rosa is expected to weaken before making landfall on Monday, October 1, on the northwestern coast of the peninsula, either as a hurricane or a lesser tropical storm. No storm alerts are in effect for the moment. Rosa will likely bring heavy rain and possible flooding to the region early next week, along with strong winds and dangerous surf. Associated transportation disruptions are also possible.

Rosa is expected to weaken further as it crosses the peninsula before passing through the extreme northwest of mainland Mexico and into the US state of Arizona.

The Pacific Hurricane Season extends from May 15 to November 30 (and the Atlantic Hurricane Season from June 1 to November 30), with the largest concentration of storms typically occurring between August and October.
