US: Hotel workers' strike expands to more cities Oct. 8 /update 4

An indefinite strike by hotel workers continued on Wednesday, October 10, with labor unions in Waikiki and Maui (Hawaii) joining the strike on October 8, bringing the total number of picketers to nearly 8000. The strike, launched on September 7, in Chicago (Illinois), is also being held in San Fransisco, San Jose, and Oakland (California), Boston (Massachusetts), and Detroit (Michigan). Although affected hotels remain operational, some disruptions have been reported, including closed restaurants, long lines at check-in, and unmade rooms. Continuing demonstrations are possible in the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected near all demonstration sites.
