Malaysia: Protests possible after corruption charges against opposition leader

Localized gatherings and protests are possible in the capital Kuala Lumpur and other cities after opposition leader, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was charged on Friday, October 19, on multiple corruption and criminal charges. On the day, several supporters gathered outside the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex and attempted to force their way in. Further such gatherings are possible in the coming days and weeks as the trial is held. A heightened security presence along with localized traffic disruptions can be expected in the vicinity of the courthouse.
