Warning

Event

Heavy rains caused flash flooding, road closures, and flight cancelations in Doha and its environs on Saturday, October 20. Officials report rainfall totals of 6.1 cm (2.4 in) in the Doha area over a 24-hour period; the average annual rainfall is 7.7 cm (3 in). Qatar's public works department issued warnings to drivers as flash floods caused road and tunnel closures, and several roads remain impassable due to standing water and debris left by flooding.

The severe weather system forced dozens of flight cancelations at Hamad International Airport (DOH), while airport authorities diverted several inbound flights to Kuwait and Iran. The US Embassy in Doha has also indicated it will remain closed on Sunday, October 21, due to weather conditions.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
