Event
On Saturday, October 27, violent clashes broke out in the Miyé Miyé Palestinian refugee camp (Sidon district). According to local sources, the clashes involved supporters of the Fatah and Ansar Allah groups. As of Saturday afternoon (local time), it is unclear if the clashes led to any casualties. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area to restore order. Further clashes are nevertheless possible in the coming days.
Context
Lebanon deployed large numbers of army personnel to the edges of the Miyé Miyé Palestinian encampment in order to enforce an intra-Palestinian ceasefire reached on October 16 following clashes between supporters of Ansar Allah and various groups within Fatah that killed two people and injured another 20.
Under the secret 1969 Cairo Agreement, Lebanon was prohibited from entering Palestinian camps, leaving Palestinian groups to provide for the camps' security. While Lebanon abrogated the Cairo Agreement in 1987, Lebanese forces remain reluctant to enter Palestinian camps.
