DRC: Opposition protests in Kinshasa November 12

Supporters of the opposition parties Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UPDS) and Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC) protested on Monday, November 12, in the capital Kinshasa to denounce the choice of Martin Fayulu of the Engagement for Citizenship and Development party (ECIDE) as the opposition coalition candidate for the December 23 presidential elections. Protesters gathered in front of the UPDS headquarters, located in the Limete district of the capital, as well as at the UNC headquarters, located in front of Martyr's Stadium, burning tires on roads and disrupting traffic. Residual traffic disruptions, notably along the N1 highway leading to Kinshasa's Ndjili International Airport (FIH), are possible in the coming hours.

Further protests are possible in the coming days. 

Context

Fayulu was appointed on November 11 following negotiations among the leaders of the seven opposition parties.
